Update: ACECQA resumes Skills Assessments for Child Care Occupations

Summary

  • ACECQA has resumed skills assessments for several key child care roles.
  • New assessments follow standard (non-DAMA-specific) requirements.
  • Changes do not affect other DAMA occupations or concessions.

What is the update?

The Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) has resumed issuing skills assessments for several child care related occupations. This follows a pause that took place while ACECQA reviewed and reformed their assessment requirements.

The pause affected the following occupations:

  • Child Care Worker (skill level 3)
  • Child Care Group Leader (skill level 2)
  • Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) Worker (skill level 3)

After completing their review, ACECQA is now once again issuing assessments for these roles but with some important updates.

What has changed?

ACECQA has resumed assessments under the framework, meaning these are not DAMA specific. This is an imnportant distinction for employers and agents to note. As a result, ACECQA’s skills assessment requirements for these roles may now differ from what is listed in ANZSCO or in your FNQ DAMA labour agreement.

To make sure you’re meeting the correct requirements, you should refer directly to the ACECQA website for their official assessment criteria.

What should employers do?

If you’re a child Care Sector employer working with these occupations we recommend:

  • Reviewing the new ACECQA assessment requirements on their website.
  • Checking how these may differ from the details in your FNQ DAMA Labour Agreement.
  • Ensuring all applicants meet the correct assessment standards for their occupation.
