As of the 5th of April 2025, the Australian Government has expanded the list of regional areas where work done by subclass 417 (Working Holiday) and subclass 462 (Work and Holiday) visa holders can count towards getting a second or third visa.
Thanks to a new law update, more areas affected by bushfires, floods, cyclones, or other severe weather are now included. This means more job opportunities in more places now count as “specified work”, which is required if you want to extend your visa.
This change highlights how important Working Holiday Makers are in helping communities recover after natural disasters.
What this means for you…
If you’re on a subclass 417 or 462 visa and want to apply for another one, you need to complete certain types of work in approved areas.
With this update:
- More areas across every state and territory are now eligible.
- The changes apply to new applications made on or after the 5th of April 2025.
- Already applied but waiting? These updates also apply to you!
