Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (SESR) (Provisional) visa (subclass 494) this visa enables regional employers to address identified labour shortages within their region by sponsoring skilled workers where an appropriately skilled Australian worker can’t be found.
There are two different streams;
- Employer Sponsored stream – this allows regional employers to address labour shortages within their region by sponsoring skilled workers where employers can’t source an appropriately skilled Australian worker.
- Labour Agreement stream – is for skilled workers nominated by the employers who have a Labour Agreement.
To be eligible for this visa you must have at least 3 years of relevant work experience in the nominated occupation and only work for the sponsor. You must also have a relevant skills assessment, be under the age of 45 years and meet the minimum standards of English language proficiency.
If you are a regional business looking to sponsor an overseas worker, you will need to meet certain eligibility criteria. There a usually a 3 step process when wanting to sponsor an overseas worker.
- You must become a Standard Business Sponsor.
- Once granted, you must apply to nominate a certain occupation under the 494 visa.
- After approval, the individual applicant may then apply for the 494 visa, allowing them to work in that occupation for you.
