Onshore Partner visa (subclass 820 / 801) allows the de facto partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen live in Australia, temporarily.
This temporary visa leads directly to the permanent Partner visa (subclass 801).
To have your Partner visa (subclass 820) approved you must;
- Be in a genuine relationship with your spouse or de facto partner who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
- Have your spouse or de facto partner sponsor you.
- Be in Australia when you apply for this visa.
Once this visa is approved you can live, work and study in Australia. You can travel in and out of Australia as many times as you wish. You also receive English language support if needed, given by the Adult Migrant English Program, if eligible.
Having this visa approved is the first step towards a permanent Partner visa (subclass 801).
Onshore Partner visa (subclass 801) is a permanent visa that allows you to live in Australia with your de facto partner or spouse. This visa is usually granted to people who hold a temporary Partner visa (subclass 820). Once this visa is granted you are able to;
- Live, work and study in Australia indefinitely.
- Travel in and out of Australia as many times as you want.
- Sponsor eligible family members to come to Australia.
- Apply for Australian citizenship if eligible.
