Special Category visa (SCV) (subclass 444) is a temporary visa that allows you to stay and work in Australia as long as you remain a New Zealand citizen. You do not have the same rights and benefits as an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
You are able to visit, work and study in Australia as long as you are a New Zealand citizen. If eligible, you can then apply for a permanent visa.
Once you leave Australia you must apply for a new SCV if you want to re-enter.
From 1 July 2023 changes to citizenship eligibility for some New Zealand citizens holding a Special Category (subclass 444) visa will apply.
