Effective the 1st of July 2025, the Australian Government will implement a 4.6% increase in Employer Sponsored visa income thresholds, aligning with the annual Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings (AWOTE). This adjustment reflects the commitment outlined in the Migration Strategy, as recommended by the Migration Review.
The revised income thresholds are as follows:
- Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT): Rising from AUD73,150 to AUD76,515. This affects nomination applications for the Core Skills stream of the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482) and the Employer Nomination Scheme visa (subclass 186).
- Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT): Increasing from AUD135,000 to AUD141,210. This impacts nomination applications for the Specialist Skills stream of the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482).
- Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT): Also increasing from AUD73,150 to AUD76,515. This applies to the Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional visa (subclass 494) and the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) (subclass 187), subject to legislative approval.
These annual adjustments ensure that wages for skilled migrants keep pace with those of Australian workers, preventing the undercutting of local wages. Employers submitting new nomination applications from 1 July 2025 must meet the updated income thresholds or the annual market salary rate, whichever is higher. It’s important to note that these changes will not affect existing visa holders or nominations lodged before this date.
