Australian Citizenship

    Special Category visa (SCV) (subclass 444) is a temporary visa that lets you stay and work in Australia as long as you remain a New Zealand citizen. You do not have the same rights and benefits as an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

As an Australian citizen you must:

  • Obey the laws of Australia.
  • Vote in federal and state or territory elections, and in a referendum.
  • Defend Australia should the need arise.
  • Serve on jury duty if called to do so.
