Employer Nominated Scheme (ENS) visa (subclass 186)


Employer Nominated Scheme (ENS) visa (subclass 186) this visa allows skilled workers, who are nominated by their employer to live and work in Australia permanently.

For this visa there are three different entry streams;

  • Direct Entry stream – for applicants who are qualified or have sufficient experience in an eligible occupation.
  • Temporary Residence Transition stream – for Temporary Work visa (subclass 457) or a Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482) holders who have worked for their nominating employer for a minimum of two or three years.
  • Labour Agreement stream – the employer must have a Labour Agreement.

Once this visa is approved you are able to;

  • Live, work and study in Australia.
  • Sponsor family members to come to Australia.
  • If eligible, apply for Australian citizenship.
  • Travel in and out of Australia.

If you are a business who is looking to sponsor an overseas worker there is also criteria that you must meet as the business sponsor;

  • You must become an approved business sponsor before you can nominate an overseas worker.
  • You must only nominate occupations that are on the Skilled Occupation List that is provided by the Department.
  • You must demonstrate the genuine need for the role before nominating a skilled worker.
  • Once approved as a business sponsor you can submit your nomination application.
