Carer visa (subclass 836 / 116) allows you to care for someone with a long-term medical condition who has no reasonable access to care options in Australia.

Carer visa (subclass 836) is an onshore permanent visa that allows you to stay in Australia to care for someone with a long-term medical condition who has no reasonable access to care options in Australia. For this visa you must;

  • Be in Australia when you apply and when the decision is made.
  • Be a carer for your Australian relative who needs care or a member of their family who lives with them and needs care and who has no reasonable access to care options in Australia.
  • Be sponsored by an eligible sponsor.

Carer visa (subclass 116) is an offshore visa that allows you to move to Australia to care for someone with a long-term medical condition. They must have no reasonable access to care options in Australia.

For this visa you must meet certain requirements, these are as follows:

  • Be outside Australia when you apply and when the decision is made.
  • Be sponsored by your relative or their partner for your first 2 years in Australia.
  • Provide care for a relative, or a member of their family who lives with them, who has no reasonable access to care options in Australia.
